Six Mile Man dies from Smoke Inhalation

A Six Mile antique dealer died after he was discovered unconscious in a burning building early Wednesday. Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley identified the man as 51-year-old James Stewart Pitts. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Department reports that a motorist called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the building on North Main Street around 3am Wednesday. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered Pitts inside the burning home antique business. Firefighters removed Pitts and extinguished the blaze. He died at the scene from smoke inhalation. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Department and the state Law Enforcement Division are investigating Pitts’ death.
