SLED assisting with Probe into Clemson Student’s Death

The State Law Enforcement Division is now assisting with the probe into the death of a Clemson University student found dead in Lake Hartwell last month. SLED has assigned an agent to the investigation into the death of 19-year-old Tucker Hipps. In a statement, the agency said it is assisting but that the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is still the lead agency. An autopsy shows Hipps died of a head injury consistent with falling more than 20 feet from a bridge onto rocks at the edge of the lake. Authorities say he was out with fraternity brothers on an early morning run at the time of his death on Sept. 22.
