South Union Boat Ramp Temporary Closure

The South Union Boat Ramp, located at 399 Boat Ramp Road in Westminster will close to the public beginning Monday October 17, 2022 for approximately two weeks for shoreline stabilization and site work near the boat ramp. The construction timeline is dependent on cooperating weather and may be adjusted as needed. South Union Boat Ramp will open as soon as the work is complete. The public will be notified if the closure is expected to take longer than two weeks.

The application for bank stabilization has been approved by the US Army Corp of Engineers and consists of repairing an approximate 70’ section of deteriorated shoreline near the boat ramp, and tying in new asphalt to the repaired section.

“Over the years, water has deteriorated a section of shoreline around the South Union Boat Ramp causing the asphalt around the ramp to fail and collapse. Staff from our Oconee County Roads & Bridges division will complete the shoreline repairs and tie in asphalt to the new grade. We expect the work to take approximately two weeks and are very thankful to our Roads & Bridges division for their assistance on this project.”, says Phil Shirley, Director of Parks, Recreation & Tourism for Oconee County.

“Upon completion of the work, we intend to apply for a permit to add a courtesy dock to the South Union Boat Ramp as funds become available. The improved access area will better serve the South Union community for adequate Lake Hartwell access once completed.”

Signs and barriers will be in place beginning Monday, October 17, 2022 and no public entry will be allowed until project completion.

Nearby access ramps to Lake Hartwell include Fair Play, Lake Hartwell
State Park, Mullins Ford and Choestoea.
