Sports Update For Monday, August 19th, 2019; South Carolina Tight End Retires From Football

(Seneca, SC)——Fourth ranked Wake Forest defeated Furman in a men’s soccer exhibition match last night at Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium by a score of 2-1.

Furman will conclude their exhibition schedule on Friday, August 23rd with a 7:30pm game at North Florida.

South Carolina announced over the weekend that tight end Kiel Pollard has retired from playing football.

According to South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp, Pollard suffered a small fracture in his neck which was going to sideline him for 4-6 weeks.  An MRI also revealed a cyst on his spinal cord.

The severity of the situation and the possible long-term consequences from that medical condition forced him to give up his playing career, according to Muschamp.

Our coverage of South Carolina football begins on Saturday, August 31st when the Gamecocks take on North Carolina at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.  Airtime begins at 12:30pm with a scheduled kick-off of 3:30pm.
