Sports Update For Thursday, August 29th, 2019; Week One Of The High School Football Season Set For Tomorrow Night

(Seneca, SC)—–Week One of the high school football season is tomorrow and one of the highlight games of the week is the Oconee County rivarly matchup between Walhalla and West-Oak.

Walhalla picked up their first win of the year last week by a score of 42-6 over Wildwood, FL which was a good win according to Walhalla Head Coach Padgett Johnson.

Coach Johnson said that for an opening game, he though the Razorbacks did pretty well, especially considering the distractions of traveling to Florida and going to Universal the next day. However, considering all the other non-football activities going on, Coach Johnson said he thought that they did a good job “focusing on the task at hand.”

The Daniel Lions will play their home opener tomorrow night against Easley at Singleton Field.

The Lions picked up their first win last Friday night by a score of 44-0 over Liberty. Even with the win, Daniel Head Coach Jeff Fruster said that there is more work to be done.

“I thought it was a good step forward,” said Coach Fruster. “I thought it was a good way to start the season but like I said, when we look back at the game film, when we look at the penalties and some of the mistake we made in the game plan, it definitely gave us a template of what to move forward with. And, what areas need extra attention so we can strengthen them in preparation for this Friday.”

The School District of Oconee County wants to remind seniors that are 65 years of age or older that they are eligible for passes to get into regular season athletic events.

Those who are eligible are asked to bring their driver’s license to the School District office in Walhalla and request a gold card.
