Sports Update For Thursday, September 5th, 2019; Seneca – Daniel Rivalry Game To Highlight Week Two Of High School Football Season

(Seneca, SC)———Week Two of the high school football season will be highlighted in our area by a rivalry matchup between Seneca and Daniel tomorrow night at Singleton Field in a game you can hear right here on 94.1 The Lake.

Daniel Head Coach Jeff Fruster has played and coached in several Seneca/Daniel games. Coach Fruster says the close proximity of the two schools and the level of competition and how good the two schools have been have helped contribute to the rivalry

Meanwhile, Walhalla will look to go 3-0 on the season tomorrow night at home, if they can beat Landrum. Last year, Walhalla overcame a 7-0 deficit to defeat the Cardinal 10-7. Walhalla Coach Padgett Johnson expects another tough game this season with Landrum, that much like last year’s game, may come down to the 4th quarter again.

The South Carolina Gamecocks will play their home opener this Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium against Charleston Southern in a game you can hear right here on the Lake.

South Carolina will start freshman Ryan Hilinski in place of the injured Jake Bentley with Dakerion Joyner as Hilinski’s backup.

South Carolina Head Coach Will Muschamp says that even with Hiliski starting, Joyner will play as his role has not changed in the last week and a half.

Muschamp says that Joyner will play some quaterback snaps and he will play wideout as well.

Muschamp says that he has confidence in Hiliski and “he has prepared himself for this opporunity,” according to Muschamp.

Clemson running back Travis Etienne was named the ACC running back of the week this week based on his performance in Clemson’s win last week over Georgia Tech.

Etienne rushed for 205 yards on 12 carries as Clemson collected its 458th ACC weekly honor since 1978.
