Statewide Burning Ban Still In Effect In South Carolina

(Seneca, SC)—–The statewide burning ban that was issued this week by the SC Forestry Commission is still in effect and will be in effect until further notice.

The burning ban is in effect for all counties in South Carolina and went into effect Wednesday morning with the approach of Hurricane Dorian.

The ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including yard debris burning, campfires and burning for forest, wildfire or agricultural purposes in unincorporated areas. Open fire cooking is not included in the ban, however, the Forestry Commission strongly advises all citizens to be extremely vigilant until the ban is lifted.

The reasons for the burning ban, according to the Forestry Commission, is that much of the state of South Carolina remains under elevated drought conditions, even with the heavy rains from Dorian in the eastern part of the state as well as the deployment of law enforcement, firefighters and other emergency personnel to the coastal areas due to Dorian as well.
