Still Time to sign up for The Great Oconee Clean Up

There is still time to sign up for The Great Oconee Clean Up on Saturday, April 22. The trash removal event is sponsored by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, the Oconee Economic Alliance, the Keep Oconee Beautiful Association and the School District of Oconee County. In addition to the goal of continuing to raise awareness of the litter issue and its effects on Oconee County, the main focus of the event will be to clean up a portion of a major road that thousands of motorists travel every single day, says Destination Oconee Manager Janet Hartman. “Our first annual Great Oconee Clean Up is Saturday, April 22. We’re going to begin at New Spring Church on Clemson Highway at 8:15am. We’re looking to get as many folks to come out and join us in this great event to really just help the community put on a good first impression when people are entering the community. We are starting at the Pickens County line coming into Oconee County up to the Seneca bridge. Right now we have 125 people signed up but we have room for many more and actually the first 200 people that register will receive a free t-shirt. So, we encourage folks to join us for this event, they can still register online at www.investoconeesc.com or call us at 864-638-4210 and if you are not able to register in advance you can always register the day of, just come to New Spring Church on Saturday, April 22, at 8:15am. We will get you registered, we will get you a t-shirt and then we will get out and pick up some litter.” Organizers and volunteers hope to remove trash that day from a five mile section of Highway 123 between Clemson and Seneca. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
