Structure Fire on Chevis Mountain Road

At 10:56pm Sunday, Oconee County firefighters were alerted to a residential structure fire at 220 Chevis Mountain Road in the Cleveland Community of Oconee County. Crews arrived within 10 minutes to find the single story home and a vehicle well involved in fire. Approximately 25 firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about 30 minutes. Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King says because there were no hydrants near the structure, a rural water supply operation was utilized to deliver the required water to extinguish the fire. No injuries were sustained during the three-hours of operating at the scene.  Chief King reports that two adults occupied the home at the time of the fire. Both were able to escape unharmed. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.  The home and contents were destroyed. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to provide support to the couple.
