Student Reportedly Had Gun on Bus

On Monday, the Oconee County School District was alerted to a situation involving a middle school student who reportedly had a firearm on a Seneca area school bus. The administration of Seneca Middle School and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office promptly responded to the incident. The student in question did not attend school on Tuesday and will remain absent until the investigation concludes.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the reports of the student, who is a teenager, possibly possessing a firearm on the school bus. A School Resource Officer was informed of the situation on Monday afternoon and initiated an investigation.

As part of this investigation, the officer spoke with the student involved and informed him that he was not permitted to attend school until the conclusion of the investigation. The incident remains under active investigation, and no additional information, including any that could potentially identify the minor involved, can be released at this time.
