STUMPHOUSE MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK ACCESS

A recent issue regarding violations being issued to users of the Stumphouse Mountain Bike Park who access the park on the gated gravel road off Ross Mountain Road has caused the City of Walhalla’s officials to consult with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. And, according to the DNR, it’s a violation to use wheeled devices in a heritage preserve.

Neither the City nor the DNR recognize the gated gravel road as official access to the mountain bike park, and anyone who uses it on a wheeled vehicle is subject to a citation. Currently, the only entrance is off Highlands Highway via Stumphouse Tunnel Road.

The City of Walhalla is currently working on construction documents and funding for the official Ross Mountain access. Once this parking area is constructed, city officials said that users can access SMBP from there.
