Sunday is National Family Literacy Day

Mayor Dan Alexander signed a Proclamation marking Sunday, November 1st as National Family Literacy Day.

The United States began marking National Family Literacy Day in 1994, and National Family Literacy is celebrated throughout the month of November. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it more important to recognize the importance of reading to children from birth, which helps to instill a love of reading and development of literacy skills.

This proclamation was requested from Mayor Alexander from the Skyagunsta Society, National Society Children of the American Revolution which is sponsored by the Wizard of Tamasee Chapter (DAR) of Seneca and the Andrew Pickens Chapter (DAR) of Clemson.

We want to encourage those in Seneca and beyond to read to the children in their lives and to thank those at schools, libraries, and other organizations that work to help our children, our community’s future leaders, develop literacy skills.
