Swift Resolution and Future Improvements: Addressing Water Quality Concerns in Pickens

In the third quarter of 2023, the City of Pickens’ drinking water was found to have elevated levels of halo acetic acids (HAA5), a byproduct of chlorine disinfection. The issue was resolved the next day, and the city is now in compliance with legal limits.

At a town hall on Tuesday, leaders reassured residents about the safety of their water and announced more frequent testing for disinfection byproducts. The city and Clear Water Solutions are also replacing old pipes to address concerns about water quality.

A new water treatment plant on Lake Keowee, expected to open in the next three to four years, is anticipated to further improve the situation.
