Tamassee DAR School named Angel

The Tamassee DAR School has been recognized by the state for outstanding stewardship.  Only ten organizations are selected to receive the coveted Angel Award and the TamasseeDARSchool was among the very top organizations to be recognized. CEO Amy Twitty gives details.  “We are so excited to be recognized by South Carolina Secretary of State Mark Hammond as an Angels for 2013.  We have always been great stewards of our donations and are very excited to have the recgnition for 2013.” The TamasseeDARSchool serves children and their families who need a safe place, explains Twitty.  “The childern reside with us.  We work with the child on their needs and the family works on their environment at home at the same time.  We focus on education, we believe that our children must receive an education in order to be successful adults and we work with the family to help them recover from issues that they have been working with in the home as well.  We also provide after care services, so that when children are returning to their homes or an adoptive placement or even going on the college that we follow them through our after care program making usre what they have learned at Tamassee transfers into their new home environment.” To be selected as an Angel, the charity must have committed 80% or more of its total operating costs to charitable programs; been in existence for three or more years; and must be registered with the Secretary of State to solicit funds.  Dianne Culburtson, Chair of the Tamassee DAR School Board of Trustees is proud of the Angel recognition and compliments the board and staff for their hard work.  “Our President Larry Shepherd starting using the phrase ‘for the children’ and that eptimizes what we do.  It is about the children and providing for the needs that they have and each one of those children is individual and special and we also work with the families, we try to help the children and the families.  We have a wonderful board and we have a wonderful staff.  Amy Twitty is our director and she is doing a super job of leading the school in looking at what the needs are and as we go along we grow and change and try to make it better all the time and the more money we raise the more children we can provide for and there are children out there who need our services.”  To learn more about the Tamassee DAR School and how you can support their mission go to www.tdarschool.org.
