TCTC offering FAFSA Fridays

College is affordable, for example, Tri-County awarded nearly $25 million in free financial aid and scholarships last year. In addition, Lottery Tuition Assistance has increased; however none of that money is available until you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA, explains Tri-County Technical College Financial Aid Coordinator Catherine Durrant. “You may qualify for federal aid but a lot of colleges, especially Tri-County Technical College, you may also qualify for state aid through the Lottery Program and we have to have a FAFSA to determine that also. Many students qualify for federal and state aid but we are not able to award that if we don’t have your FAFSA. So, the FAFSA is critical to receiving any kind of assistance.” Tri-County Technical College holds FAFSA Fridays at each campus, continues Durrant. “We do offer that every Friday. You can come into any of the campuses, Anderson, Easley or Pendleton, and sit down with someone and go through all the steps of completing the FAFSA. The only things you need to do that is personal information from the students and maybe the parents as well as tax information from the previous filling year. Most of it can be done online and even sometimes the tax documents can be obtained electronically from the IRS.” FAFSA Fridays run from 10am to 1pm every Friday for Tri-County Technical College students who need assistance filling out the application.
