Theft of Baseball Equipment

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in finding baseball equipment and other items that were reportedly stolen from a team that is competing in the Dixie Boys World Series in Seneca.  Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt gives details.  “Deputies were dispatched to 226 Hitec Road, which is the location of the Quality Inn in Seneca, around 10:50am Saturday morning in regards to a burglary to a motor vehicle and a larceny.  Deputies made contact with the victims, who told the deputy that an unknown subject(s) had broken into a 6’ x 10” enclosed pull behind trailer.  The pad lock, according to the victims, had been cut off the side door to gain entry and while inside, the victims reported that several different baseball bags full of baseball equipment had reportedly been stolen. One of the victims reported to the deputy that his tag has been stolen off his 2007 Chevrolet Pickup Truck and that an Igloo Cooler had been taken out of the bed of his pickup truck.  The victims told deputies that they were baseball coaches from Sumter, South Carolina and that their team was playing in the Dixie Youth World Series, which is being held at the Shaver Recreation Complex in Seneca.  According to deputies, the motel does have a security camera, but it was not facing in the direction of the parking lot. Four different baseball bags that were reportedly stolen from the trailer contained a variety of baseball equipment, including catchers gear, outfielders’ gloves, cleats, aluminum bats, and a pair of Oakley sunglasses.”  The value of the equipment taken is estimated around $9,000.
