Three killed on SC Highways

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces three people were killed on state roads and highways from Friday, January 11, at 6pm until Sunday, January 13, at midnight. As of January 13, 22 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 35 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012.  Oconee County reports no highway fatalities in 2013 compared to one in 2012 at this same time.  In Pickens County, one fatality has been reported so far in 2013 compared to none in 2012.  Anderson County lists no highway fatalities in 2013 compared to three in 2012.  Of the 12 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2013 statewide, nine were not wearing seat belts.  Through midnight January 13, five pedestrians, three motorcyclists and one bicyclist have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight January 13, 2013.
