Time for Seneca to negotiate Electric Contract

The Seneca City Council is currently shopping to see if they can get a better rate on wholesale electricity. At their work session meeting this week, the Seneca City Council heard that time has come once again to start negotiating a new electric wholesale contract for the city. This will determine how much Seneca will pay for its future electric power supply and in turn how much its customers will pay, explains Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander. “Every five to ten years we actually put it back out for bid and we shop to get the best price that we can possibly get. So, what we are trying to do is control that increase and get the best price. Our contract does come up again next year, so we are already in the process of shopping to see if we can get a better rate.” Seneca’s current electric contract with the Southern Company expires in June of 2015. So far, five electric wholesale suppliers have shown interest in the new contract with the city.
