Time running out for Seniors to apply for Scholarships

Time is running out for high school seniors to apply for scholarships to college. The final weeks of school are busy for local high school guidance departments, explains Seneca High School Guidance Director Karen Trammell. “We are on the stretch run, I think we have about seven weeks of school left and it will certainly be a busy time but a fun time of the year. Of course, one of my primary focuses every year is scholarships and we are in the middle of scholarship season. We are kind of winding down on the deadlines for a bunch of local scholarships. We hope our kids are applying and doing what they are supposed to do. I can tell you right now, our Class of 2015 is about $3.5 million off the all-time record, so, I think they have a really good chance to set a new record for us and we certainly hope they will.” A popular scholarship that local students are applying for is one that involves community service, continues Trammell. “A service based scholarship, a lot of agencies and community clubs are looking for those kids who have done volunteer work or service learning in the community, so that is a big one in addition to athletics, performing arts and academics, all of those are big scholarship opportunities.” The school advertises these scholarship opportunities on the guidance department’s page of the school’s website and facebook pages. More information is also available in the guidance office at the school.
