Toccoa City Employee Jailed After Theft Allegations

A woman who worked for the City of Toccoa was arrested for stealing money from an elderly man, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The GBI said that Jennifer Nicole Johnson, 35, took $2,000 from the man who came to pay for a water leak repair at the city hall. The man, who spoke limited English, later found out that only $200 was applied to his bill and reported the theft to the police. The GBI said that Johnson was charged with theft by deception and exploitation and intimidation of an elder person. She was booked into the Stephens County Detention Center on Thursday, August 10, but was released on bond the same day. The case will be prosecuted by the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
