Two Republicans Vying for Duncan’s Seat

Following U.S. Representative Jeff Duncan’s decision not to seek re-election, two Republicans have emerged as potential successors for the South Carolina 3rd congressional seat. One of them is Sheri Biggs, a Salem resident and an officer in the Air National Guard. Biggs’ campaign announcement identifies her as a pro-life advocate, a supporter of the 2nd amendment, and a believer in Donald Trump’s potential for a new presidential term.

Almost concurrently with Duncan’s announcement, news surfaced that State Senator Richard Cash from Anderson also intends to run. Local political insiders concur that Cash, a conservative, is a strong contender for the Republican nomination for the U.S. House. It has been suggested that even if Duncan had pursued re-nomination, he would have likely faced an intra-party challenge from Cash.
