Underwood comments on OC Officer of the Year Award

Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Road Patrol Captain Jeff Underwood was recently awarded the Oconee Officer of the Year Award.  Tenth Circuit Solicitor Chrissy Adams sponsors the award.  Captain Underwood said he was honored to receive the award.  “I was completely honored to be nominated for the award.  We’ve had a  couple of officers in our department receive the award in the past and it is really an honor.  All I do day to day is try to help our department become better and do all I can for our guys day in and day out.  It blew me away, it was great honor.” Captain Underwood was recognized for his efforts and work to secure and purchase tourniquet kits for all certified deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, which included a fundraiser, which was held last year in Fair Play and donations from Tactical Medical Solutions of Anderson.  “The kit themselves has tourniquets in it as well as some other medical supplies, where the officers can were the tourniquets at all times.  We have already had two cases since we’ve been able to deploy the kits to all the officer in the department where two gunshot victims, we were able to save their lives.” The acquisition of the tourniquet kits did not involve the use of taxpayer money.  In presenting the award to Captain Underwood, Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw praised Underwood’s efforts to go outside conventional thinking in order to accomplish goals and tasks. Captain Underwood is a member of the command staff at the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and has been a deputy since 2002.  Before his time in law enforcement, Underwood served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years.  Underwood was promoted to Captain of the Uniform Patrol Division last year.
