United Way calling on Volunteers for Day of Action

A call is going out to volunteers to take action in their community. The United Way of Oconee County needs help improving the community on the 2014 Day of Action. Kim Ellis, volunteer coordinator with the United Way of Oconee County says this is a nationwide initiative geared toward making an impact. “This year’s Day of Action marks the eighth year for the United Way Worldwide event. Every year on June 20, we have the Day of Action because it is the longest day of the year, which is why the United Way uses this day for our event.” Ellis says the Day of Action starts early on June 20. “Anyone that would like to volunteer, we will be starting at 8:30am. We have several different projects in the county. We have three Born Learning Trails, Seneca, Walhalla and Westminster, where we will need volunteers to help us go out and touch up those sites. We also have projects at the United Way Office where we will be stripping wallpaper and painting in several different offices. We also have a two-mile area where we are going to be picking up litter.” The United Way of Oconee County’s 2014 Day of Action takes place on June 20, from 8:30am to 2pm. To volunteer, call Kim Ellis at 864-882-9743 ext. 101.
