Update on Discoloration of Clemson Drinking Water

The Anderson Regional Joint Water System has been actively working on the discoloration of drinking water since the problem arose last week due to increased levels of iron and manganese in source water. The treatment processes implemented appear to be working and clearer water is now coming towards the City of Clemson and Clemson University area. When the City of Clemson received the results that the water quality had improved, the City began actively flushing its water system. Crews are currently emptying one water tank in order “to turn it over” with “clear” water. Crews are also flushing water systematically throughout the system. The City hopes this approach will clear up the discoloration throughout the system in the next few days. Remember that the water is safe to drink. If you notice any discoloration in the water, limit clothes washing until discoloration subsides. The appearance of any tint should disappear over the next few days as water already in the distribution system is used. If you notice discoloration in your drinking water after Wednesday, call the City of Clemson at 864-653-2046 and indicate your location.
