Update on Lake Hartwell Missing Boater

The search for a missing boater on Lake Hartwell enters day five after crews were unsuccessful on Saturday. Oconee County Emergency Services Rescue Chief Scott Krein reports that 64-year-old Brady Hamby remains missing. He was last seen kayaking on the lake Wednesday afternoon. Chief Krein says that sonar units from Pickens and Oconee counties as well as the Georgia Department of Natural Resources were able to locate some areas to dive; however, dive rescue teams were hindered on Saturday by high winds and cold weather with the water temperature around 57 degrees. Depending on the weather, operations resume Sunday. So far, deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and Hart County, GA Sheriff’s Office along with officials from the South Carolina and Georgia DNR, an air unit out of Greenville and volunteers have assisted in the search on Lake Hartwell. Chief Krein reports that Hamby’s lime green kayak washed ashore on the Georgia side of the lake just east of the I-85 Bridge.
