Update on Oconee Nuclear Station’s Performance

This week, the Oconee Nuclear Station received its latest report card from the government watchdog agency, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. NRC inspectors say all of their findings amounted to “very low” safety significance. In a letter to Scott Batson, Oconee Nuclear Station site vice president, the NRC’s Joel Munday said, “The NRC has determined the performance at Oconee Units 1, 2, and 3 during the most recent quarter was within the Licensee Response Column of the NRC’s Reactor Oversight Process Action Matrix.” Through June 2017, Oconee Nuclear Station can expect scheduled and routine inspections, along with a continuing review by NRC staff of how the plant would mitigate the potential for problems from fires, tornadoes, and other scenarios.
