Upgrades to Westminster’s Water System Approved; City Hires Assistant Admin

During a special noon meeting of the Westminster City Council on Thursday, Mayor Brian Ramey expressed his excitement as contractors from Greenville, South Carolina, and Toccoa, Georgia were assigned the task of implementing new water lines and fire hydrants—a project that has been in the planning phase for six years.

With the council’s approval, the major upgrades in the water distribution system are set to commence. The project became feasible through the support of an $8.7 million low-interest loan from USDA Rural Development.

City Administrator Kevin Bronson informed the council that the city’s repayment would amount to an annual payment of $400,000. Arrowood General Contracting from Toccoa and Payne, McGinn, and Cummins from Greenville have been entrusted with the responsibility and will have 330 calendar days to achieve substantial completion, followed by an additional 360 calendar days to fully wrap up the work.

Furthermore, the council introduced Westminster’s first assistant city administrator, Reagan Osbon, during the meeting. Osbon, an Aiken native and a graduate of the University of Georgia, is scheduled to officially commence his role next week. He will work under the guidance and direction of City Administrator Kevin Bronson.
