Upstate Hospitals Welcome New Year’s Babies

Several families in the area have started the new year by welcoming a new child. However, only one baby gets the honor of being the first baby of the new year at each hospital.

In Anderson, Heather and Matt Browning celebrated the birth of their sixth child, James Browning, around 7:26 a.m. James, who weighed 4 pounds, 15.4 ounces and measured 19 inches long, was the first baby born at Anmed Medical Center in Anderson. This was particularly notable as it was the first New Year’s baby born at AnMed since the Maternity Center was relocated to the AnMed Medical Center closer to the heart of Anderson County last year. James has four brothers and one sister to grow up with.

Meanwhile, in Greenville, the first baby of 2024 was Matthew Dakota Johnson. Born to Dale and Ashtyn Johnson of Gray Court, Matthew weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces and was born at 1:47 a.m.
