Walhalla and Oconee County Reach Mutual Aid Agreement

At gatherings held Tuesday night in Walhalla, a series of significant decisions were made concerning the city’s fire department and the Oconee County Council. The fire department reaffirmed its dedication to answering fire calls within a 5-mile unincorporated radius of the corporate limits. This commitment was endorsed by the fire committee, under the leadership of Sarai Melendez, who unanimously voted in favor of a continuing resolution to the full city council. This resolution guarantees the extension of the existing contract at a cost of $550,000.

Concurrently, the Oconee County Council passed a motion to add an addendum to the Walhalla contract. While the specifics of the addendum were not disclosed, it was stated that the contract would persist in its current terms until July 2024. In a subsequent motion, the county council also approved a modification to the vacation accrual amount for the county administrator.

These collective decisions underscore the ongoing commitment to safeguarding the residents of Walhalla and its neighboring areas.
