Walhalla Council approves Beer Tent at Oktoberfest

At the request of the Walhalla Chamber of Commerce, city leaders are to consider allowing a beer tent to operate for limited hours during this year’s Oktoberfest. Sister station WGOG reports that at last night’s meeting, the mayor and council entertained the chamber’s request for a Kraft Beer Festival from 2-6pm at the corner of Main and North Catherine streets. A vote is scheduled for the next regular meeting of the Walhalla City Council on Aug. 19. The Kraft Beer Festival would offer a tasting event that afternoon simultaneous with the Sertoma Club’s beer tent at Sertoma Field. Walhalla Chamber executive director Vanessa Penton also asked for parts of Main Street be closed to traffic to allow vendor booths in the street to not interfere with stores. She also asked the city to waive the hospitality tax charged by Main Street merchants for the two-day festival, Oct. 17-18.
