Walhalla Man arrested for Accessory after the Fact

Over the weekend, a Walhalla man was arrested and served an arrest warrant charging him with accessory after the fact of a felony related to the Utica Mill Hill double homicide that occurred two weeks ago, tells Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “36-year-old Matthew Carlton Moss of Stribling Shoals Road was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 2:59am after being transported by officers from the Westminster Police Department who placed Moss into custody after a traffic stop. Back on Sept. 10, the Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into a double homicide after two victims were found deceased in the yard of a residence at 14 Padgett Street. As a result of evidence obtained in the investigation, 18 year old Steven Lee Reynolds of a separate Padgett Street address was arrested during the evening hours of Sept. 11, and was charged with two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of 54-year-old Timothy Wayne Caldwell and 29-year-old David Thomas Tranah. Reynolds was also served with three arrest warrants obtained by Narcotics Agents of the Sheriff’s Office for distribution of narcotics. Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division have continued to gather evidence in the investigation. Based upon that evidence obtained, investigators obtained an arrest warrant last week against Moss based upon the fact that Moss, according to the arrest warrant, transported Reynolds at some point after the shooting to Pickens County and assisted him with lodging knowing that Reynolds had committed crimes and did so in an attempt to assist Reynolds.” At this time, Moss remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center on a $25,000 surety bond. Moss will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device should he make bond upon his release as a condition of bond. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation.
