Walhalla Man Arrested on Unlawful Weapons Charge After Welfare Check
An Oconee County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a welfare check Tuesday near Walhalla, and arrested a man on an unlawful weapons charge due to a previous domestic violence conviction, according to the arrest warrant.
59 year old Larry Gene Griffin, of W. South Broad Street in Walhalla, was discovered by the deputy inside a pickup truck on Playground Road near Yellow Brick Road.
After making contact with Griffin, the deputy found two rifles with some ammunition. A check with dispatch revealed that, according to Griffin’s criminal history, he was prohibited from possessing a firearm. Griffin was then placed under arrest and transported to jail, where he remains at this time on a $125,000 surety bond.
