Walhalla Pool opens to Crowd

A sign of the summer came over the Memorial Day holiday weekend as the Foothills Area YMCA opened the Walhalla pool to a crowd of people.  Oconee County’s lone municipal pool this summer opens full time as soon as school lets out, says YMCA executive director and CEO Darryl Broome.  “When school is out, we will be open seven days a week.” Teaching kids of the Golden Corner how to swim is a top priority this year, continues Broome.  “We will be teaching swim lessons in the morning and also a class in the evening, so we really want to stress that and we will do that throughout the summer.  It is a two-week, ten-session class.” The pool is available this summer for rentals too, concludes Broome.  “Another thing that we are offering with the pool is, pretty much our programming will end every afternoon around 5:30pm or 6pm and then the pool will be available to rent for private parties.”  The YMCA pool is located on West Main Street in Walhalla. The daily admittance fee to the pool is $3.  Learn more at www.Y4all.org.
