Washington State Man arrested in OC on Fugitive Warrant

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Washington state man Saturday evening on a fugitive from justice warrant for a violation of community custody. Deputies booked 24-year-old Zachary Joseph Hirst into the Oconee County Detention Center. During a bond hearing, his bond was set at $25,000. A deputy on routine patrol in the Utica Mill Hill area observed Hirst walk up to a vehicle and make gestures to the driver in an area that is known to be a high crime area. The deputy ran Hirst’s information and discovered that he was wanted out of Washington State. A hold was placed on Hirst as officials in Washington State said they would extradite him. According to Washington State law, “Community custody” means that portion of an offender’s sentence of confinement in lieu of earned release time served in the community subject to controls placed on the offender’s movement and activities by the department.
