West-Oak High Student dead after collapsing from Chest Pain

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis announces that a West-Oak High School student died Thursday after collapsing at school from cardiac arrest. Addis reports that 18-year-old Sierra Jaid Sims of Westminster was taken by EMS to Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca after collapsing while entering a classroom. Officials state that when the emergency responders arrived at the school around 12:06pm, Sims was conscious and showed signs of respiratory distress, while also complaining of chest pain. Sims arrived at the hospital around 1pm and suffered cardiac arrest shortly there after. The report states that even after attempting “aggressive medical treatment”, she was pronounced dead at 1:52pm. An autopsy is planned for today to determine exact cause of death. Addis says there is no recent trauma known to be associated with the death.
