West-Oak Warriors hold Orange Out

The West-Oak Warrior wrestling team held their first home matches of the season Tuesday night, notching victories over Mauldin and Westside. The spirit in the stands could only top the action on the mat during the “Orange Out” event as everyone sported orange t-shirts, which is the color of leukemia awareness. West-Oak assistant coach Jason Tannery will spend Christmas in Charleston as his two-year-old son Lachlan is treated at MUSC. West-Oak head wrestling Coach Greg Brewer gives details. “Jason Tannery has done so much for our program and to have his little boy battling cancer, we wanted to do something that was going to be special for them. They are in Charleston and our hearts and prayers are certainly with them. We wanted to do something that was special for them; we wish they could have been here. To honor the 1994 State Championship Team, it was a special deal, I got chills. It was a lot of fun, so we are very excited and blessed.” West-Oak assistant coach Adam Duncan was a member of that 1994 State Championship team and is uncle to Lachlan Tannery, so the night was especially meaningful. “It was special to see those guys that I wrestled with in 1994 and won a State Championship with. For them to see what these young guys are doing now, they are carrying the torch and they are keeping that wrestling tradition alive here at West-Oak. I wish that Mary, Jason, Lachlan, Calhoun and Owen were here tonight, the whole Tannery family were here tonight to see who much they mean to this program and to the community here in West-Oak.” Lachlan Tannery was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in the summer. Fortunately, a donor was found and Lachlan received a bone marrow transplant in November through Be The Match. Help Lachlan continue his fight against cancer by registering at join.bethematch.org/Lachlan or donating at bethematchfoundation.org/goto/lachlansdonordash. The goal is to recruit 1,000 new donors online and raise $25,000 for Be The Match. You can also support Lachland if you donate blood or platlets at any Blood Connection location, just mention Lachlan Tannery to help offset transfusion costs.
