West Union Woman arrested on Drug Charges

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a West Union woman on drug charges this week during routine road patrol operations. Deputies were dispatched to the area of West Main Street in West Union to reports of a driver of a Ford van driving erratically.  Deputies pulled the van over at the intersection of Dutch Fork Road and West Main Street.  A sobriety test was performed on the driver, Crystal Leigh Swafford. The officer received permission from Swafford to search her purse and discovered a prescription pill bottle with a different name on the bottle.  The officer discovered two different kinds of prescription medication inside the bottle.  Swafford was arrested and transported to the OconeeCountyDetentionCenter.  The deputy asked Swafford before she entered the jail if she had anything else illegal on her and she said no.  However, during a search, other prescription medication was found. Swafford was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on two charges of possession of a controlled substance and a contraband charge.  Swafford was also issued a uniform traffic ticket for driving left of center.
