West Union’s 2024-25 Budget and Annexation Plans

The small Town of West Union is considering expanding its limits. At the town council meeting on Tuesday, Naomi Reed from the state Municipal Association discussed annexation methods with the town council, highlighting the benefits for both the town and property owners, such as a stronger tax base and access to police and sanitation services.

Despite discussions on zoning, Mayor Linda Oliver confirmed that the town isn’t pursuing it.

Reed advised maintaining open media relations due to the potential controversy of annexation.

The town council approved a $945,442 budget for 2024-25, a nearly $200,000 increase from the previous fiscal year. The increase is attributed to growth factors like adding police officers, annexation, and raised millage rates. The budget does not include a millage increase for the fiscal year 2024-25. The current millage rate is 54.3 mills. The new fiscal year begins on April 1.
