Westminster Approves 20% Water & Sewer Rate Hike

Second and final reading of a controversial ordinance and budget amendment was passed at a Westminster City Council meeting last night.

The council voted unanimously 4-0 to pass onto its retail customers a 20% sewer charge increase.

Upon recommendation from their administrator, Westminster officials deemed a mid-government year sewer increase financially necessary to deflect an identical increase passed down from the Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority.

The increase will be used to help pay for millions of dollars’ worth of system repairs and projects, while attempting to enhance its financial standings to qualify for loans and grants.
