Westminster City Council Approves PMPA Pre-Trial Settlement

Westminster’s administrator, Kevin Bronson, has announced that a pre-trial settlement of a lawsuit involving Westminster’s electric power supplier will result in an increase in the city’s retail electric power rates…

The lawsuit was between Greer and Rock Hill and the Piedmont Municipal Power Agency (PMPA), with allegations that these two PMPA members were overcharged. Although Westminster was not named in the suit, it will be assessed part of the agreed $55 million settlement as a member, leading to an estimated 2.5% increase in its retail rates.

The Westminster City Council approved the pre-trial settlement after a private briefing from Joel Ledbetter of the Easley Commission of Public Works. The settlement, crafted by Ledbetter, requires approval from all PMPA-member cities: Abbeville, Clinton, Easley, Gaffney, Greer, Laurens, Newberry, Rock Hill, Union, and Westminster.
