Westminster City Council delays vote on Electric Increase

It’s getting more expensive to power the City of Westminster.  At their monthly meeting Tuesday night, the Westminster City Council heard a report on a 7.6% electric power increase from their wholesale supplier, explains Westminster City Administrator David Smith.  “Typically on an annual basis this time of the year we are notified what the wholesale cost of power has increased by and that reflects the increase cost of operating a power plant.  So, the portion of the power plant that we own, we get our share of that increased cost of operation.  This year we were notified that our wholesale cost is going to go up by 7.6% and the Council opted to not take any action waiting to see how our budget is working going into this next fiscal year.” The Westminster City Council delayed the vote one month. The city is a member of Piedmont Municipal Power Agency, which is a consortium of Upstate municipalities that draw their power supplies through part ownership of a nuclear reactor.
