Westminster Death – Vehicle in Lake

At approximately 10:45 am Thursday morning, February 15, Oconee 911 Communications received a call from a fisherman reporting a car was in Lake Hartwell at the end of Dr. John’s Road near Westminster.
Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and Oconee Fire Emergency Services personnel responded to this incident.  A vehicle was observed in the lake an estimated 75 yards from the shoreline.
It appeared the driver of the vehicle drove down a pathway leading to the lake; there was no damage to the vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle and her pet dog would be found deceased within the vehicle. This incident is believed to have occurred between 9:00 pm and 10:00 PM Wednesday.
An autopsy will be conducted Friday to assist in determining the cause of death; it is possible a medical condition contributed to this event based on her medical history.
The deceased is identified as:  India L. Medlin, Age 64 of Westminster.  Ms. Medlin resided on Dr. John’s Road and had driven by her home.
