Westminster Library hosts Sensory Friendly Film

In honor of Autism Awareness Month and to continue efforts to reach out to all people of Oconee County, the Westminster Branch of the Oconee County Public Library hosts its first Sensory Friendly Film on April 27. For these special showings the room will be lighter, the volume will be lower, and audience members will be welcome to move around, talk and sing. The intended audience is children with special needs accompanied by siblings and caregivers, although everyone is welcome. “Families with special needs members often don’t go out to programs because they are afraid they will cause a disruption. By hosting these movie nights, and possible future programs, we hope to reach out to those who might not use the library and allow them to have fun without that fear,” says Westminster Library Branch Manager Leah Price. Sensory Friendly Films will be in addition to monthly Family Movie Nights at the Westminster Library and special movie showings at the Walhalla Library. The Library is able to show these films through Movie Licensing USA provided through funding by the Friends of the Library. This month’s Sensory Friendly Film will feature a classic remake starring Jamie Foxx, Quvenzhane Wallis, and Cameron Diaz. Fresh hot popcorn will be served.
