Westminster Looks for Inspiration on Main Street

Westminster is planning to revitalize its Main Street and is looking to downtowns in other cities like Greer and Simpsonville for inspiration. The city’s population has decreased by nearly 6 percent since 2000, while the rest of Oconee County has grown.

City Administrator Kevin Bronson hopes the new master plan will make the city more appealing to visitors and improve the quality of life for residents. The plan includes changing traffic patterns, building more common spaces, and making the area more pedestrian-friendly to attract local restaurants, retail, and breweries into empty storefronts.

The city will begin applying for state and federal grants to help fund the project in the fall.
