Westminster Man arrested for Carjacking

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Westminster man on multiple charges late Friday afternoon, including a charge of carjacking. A deputy responded to an address on Pickens Road near Westminster in regards to a reported assault. Once deputies arrived on scene, information from the complainant revealed that 33-year-old Timothy Ryan Long, Sr. had not assaulted the victim but had got in front of the victims vehicle to prevent the complainant from leaving, then jumped on the vehicles hood and kicked the windshield. The victim got out of the vehicle. Long then proceeded to get in the vehicle and drove away. Dispatch relayed the type of vehicle that Long was driving, a light blue Kia Spectra with the windshield kicked in. A deputy made contact with the vehicle on Highway 183 at Old Walhalla Highway. The deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop but Long would not pull over and proceeded down Highway 183 towards Walhalla. As the pursuit continued, another deputy deployed stop sticks along a portion of Highway 183, which Long ran over. The vehicle drove about 75 yards, according to the deputy, and then pulled over to the side of the road. Long was arrested without incident and was transported to the Oconee County Detention Center. Long stands charged with driving under suspension, carjacking, malicious injury to personal property and failure to stop for a blue light.
