Westminster Man arrested for Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Westminster man on two charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the first degree on Friday. On Feb. 12, a deputy took a report of a sexual assault and turned the case over to the Criminal Investigations Division. As the investigation continued, it was determined that 63-year-old Michael Edward Burdette had sexually assaulted a female minor, who was nine-years-old at the time, between June 1, 2010 and Jan. 1, 2011. The incidents only involved one female victim. The incidents occurred at the home address of Burdette on Dr. Johns Road. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation. Due to the fact that this is an ongoing investigation and to preserve its integrity and that of the victim, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing any further information on this case, including the relationship between the accused and the victim.
