Westminster Man jailed for July 26 Larceny

A Westminster man sits behind bars, charged in connection to a July 26 larceny case. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reports that 28-year-old Dewayne Scott Brooks faces one count of breaking into a motor vehicle, one count of petit larceny, two counts of financial transaction card fraud, one count of financial transaction card theft and one count of criminally receiving goods. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release on Wednesday after a deputy spoke with a complainant regarding a larceny in which a wallet containing a driver’s license and ATM cards was taken from a vehicle in the parking lot of the BI-LO in Seneca. According to surveillance pictures taken the morning of the larceny from the Bank of America branch showed a suspect trying to obtain money from the ATM. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office sought the public’s help through Crime Stoppers to identify the subject in the pictures that were released. Investigators were able to determine from information received that Brooks was the subject in the pictures and warrants were served on him. Brooks remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $27,000 surety bond. Investigators with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office thank citizens as well as the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office with their help and assistance in this case.
