Westminster’s Police Chief Hiring Process

The application period for the position of Westminster’s next police chief has concluded, with 10 candidates remaining in contention. City Administrator Kevin Bronson has indicated that the city council is expected to commence interviews by their next regular meeting on March 19.

A significant outcome of a lengthy discussion was the decision that the city’s elected leaders will retain the authority to hire police chiefs, rather than delegating this responsibility to the administrator.

This decision is notwithstanding their agreement to leave the hiring of rank-and-file officers to the discretion of the chief. Currently, a thorough process is being conducted to evaluate the 10 applicants.
