White Flag waiving outside Our Daily Rest

It’s getting cold outside. A white flag waives outside Our Daily Rest, the homeless shelter in downtown Seneca. Lauren Richardson, executive director of Our Daily Rest says their doors are always open to those in need when the temperature drops below freezing. “We put the white flag out when it is below freezing. What that means is, if you need a warm place to sleep, you may come to the door at 8pm and we will bring you in, help you get things you might need, a little food in your belly and a warm place to sleep. Then at 8am, you would have to be on your way, but if it is cold again the next night and the flag is out, you just come on back.” The emergency or evening shelter at Our Daily Rest can house six men and six women for the night. The shelter, geared towards clients working towards independence by saving money for housing, is located at 525 East Main Street in Seneca.
