Woman arrested on Child Cruelty Charges

A Westminster woman is behind bars after a 10-day investigation into a case of cruelty to children.  The Westminster Police Department reports the arrest of 34-year-old Rebecca Lynn Rogers on two counts of cruelty to children, one count for each of the children under her care.  A police investigation was initiated on March 21 at Butler and Johnson Streets in Westminster after firefighters extinguished a brush fire. The police quoted several people who had gathered at the fire scene, claiming a child had set the fire in their neighborhood. That, the police say, led them to their investigation into Rogers. The police report alleges a 10-year-old child intentionally set the fire.  The arrest warrants allege Rogers failed to provide proper care and attention to the children.  She was released from the Oconee County Detention Center on a $1,410 surety bond.
